FAQs

What is blank16 Studios?

Blank16 Studios is a YouTube-first production company founded by cinematographer Jonathan DaSilva. We create films, series, and documentaries with the same ambition and quality as theatrical cinema — but made accessible for free online.

Why is everything free on YouTube?

We believe cinema should belong everywhere, not just behind a paywall. By keeping our projects free to watch, we ensure anyone can experience them, regardless of what’s in their wallet. Support through merch or memberships is optional — never required.

How do you fund your projects?

Every project is supported directly by our community. Merch drops tied to films or series fund productions, pay crew, and cover gear costs. Theatrical runs with independent theaters allow us to split ticket sales while supporting local cinemas. YouTube memberships help sustain us too — but everything always stays free to watch.

What’s the difference between an “OG Drop” and a “Project Drop”?

The OG Blank16 Logo collection is our foundation — timeless, always-available merch that represents the studio itself. Project Drops are limited runs tied to specific films or series (like Blu-ray steelbooks, themed clothing, or collectibles). Once they’re gone, they may never return.

Will I miss out if I don’t buy Project Drop merch?

Not at all. Every project ends up free on YouTube. Merch and collectibles are simply a way for supporters to own a piece of the project and help fund what comes next.

What happens with memberships?

YouTube memberships are another way to support Blank16. 100% of funds go into productions, crew pay, and keeping our projects free for everyone. Members get extra perks like early updates, behind-the-scenes looks, and special thanks — but never exclusive access to films.

Do you accept outside funding or sponsors?

We’re open to collaborations that align with our mission. However, community support remains the backbone of Blank16, and we never compromise storytelling for sponsorships.

Why the name “Blank16”?

“Blank” represents a canvas for limitless creativity. “16” nods to 16mm film — a classic format that captured raw, independent cinema. Together, Blank16 is about blending old-school craft with new-age accessibility.

How can I support Blank16 if I can’t buy merch or a membership?

Just by watching, sharing, and talking about our films, you’re already part of Blank16. Word of mouth is powerful — if you love what we make, tell your friends, repost clips, or drop a comment on YouTube. Every view and every conversation helps us grow. Support doesn’t always have to be financial — your time and your voice matter just as much.
